Dancing With The Stars Round 6 Stars Announced E-mail
Tuesday, 19 February 2008

On the final episode of "Dance Wars: Bruno Vs Carrie Ann," the cast for the sixth round of ABC's juggernaut television hit "Dancing With the Stars" was announced. The group is diverse in skill potential as well as in age. I'm not sure that they quite stack up against last year's amazing group, but nonetheless this should be an interesting competition.

Let's take a look at the first DWTS cast for 2008:

Deaf actress Marlee Matlin, age 42, has made a career doing things that even those without handicaps often think twice about. Best of all, she generally achieves whatever she wants and she does it with amazing grace, skill, and undeniable success. There is no denying that Matlin is a beautiful woman with a lot of grace and more courage than her tiny body ought to hold. Don't expect a little thing like not being able to hear the music to get in this dynamo's way. I predict she could pull out the stops and go all the way.

Marlee will be paired with newcomer professional Fabian Sanchez

Vegas offers yet another stellar entertainer this year in 53 year-old magician Penn Jillette. At over six feet in height, at the age of 50, and a less that fluid sense of movement, Jillette enters the competition with several strikes against him. However, I wouldn't count him out either. This man knows how to entertain and he has a habit of pulling off tricks that others find utterly impossible.

Penn will be paired with Kym Johnson

Young Tony award winning Broadway actress Marissa Jaret Winokur shouldn't find dancing in front of millions of people too much of a challenge. She's got talent, charm, charisma and determination. As a Broadway entertainer, she is also no stranger to a long, hard day's work. She has youth, beauty, and sex appeal to spare, which could just make for a lot of fun to fans to watch.

Marissa will be partnered with Tony Dovoloni

Can comedian Adam Corolla hold back his comedic genius and turn on the drama that will be required for those lusty Latin dances? Not being that familiar with the 43-year-old entertainer, I can't say for sure but I hope he enjoys getting out from behind the mike to strut his stuff. At the very least, you can expect him to be entertaining and who knows, he might just channel his hidden dancer.

Adam will be partnered with Julianne Hough

Olympic skating medalist Kristi Yamaguchi should definitely do well in this competition if she can figure out how to transfer the grace and skill that she possesses on ice to the dance floor. Another in a long line of stunning women, with a killer smile and dynamite legs, Kristi is certain to wow the audiences. As a bonus, she also knows how please the judges; something that some of her competitors don't quite understand.

Kristi will be partnered with Mark Ballas

Latin heartthrob, Christian De La Fuente hopes to duplicate the same kind of hot excitement that fellow Latino Helios Castroneves generated just a year ago. As a singer, he knows how to play to a crowd, how to emote passion, and how to bring the fire. With a little bit of raw talent and a lot of hard work, he could just be a wild card in this competition.

Christian will be partnered with Cheryl Burke

Tennis star Monica Seles should stir up some excitement on the dance floor as well. There is no doubt that she is strong, graceful, and willing to work harder than just about anyone. As a bonus, she has a strong fan base and certain glamorous appeal. One of the youngest performers, at just 34, she also has youth on her side.

Monica will be partnered with Jonathan Roberts

Another young singer - - Rhythm and Blues singer Mario - - also joins the "Dancing With the Stars" cast. He brings with him an incredible built-in following and an established reputation for his talent, sex appeal, and sheer animal magnetism. In the past, contestants in this genre haven't fared well, however, Mario might just be the person to turn that around.

Mario will be partnered with Karina Smirnoff

Another comedian, star of the big screen Steve Guttenburg, hopes to make a positive impression as well. He certainly has proven in the past to look pretty good in white tie and tails, which could come in handy for some of those ballroom dances. However, it has been awhile since he has been seen front and center and I'm not aware that dancing has ever been a part of his repertoire.

Steve will be partnered with Anna Trebunskaya

Representing the NFL is Miami Dolphin star Jason Taylor, age 33. He is just another in a long line of tall, athletic competitors with fast feet and lots of muscle. That could either work in his favor or backfire altogether. Since I'm not a Dolphin's fan, I'm unfamiliar with Taylor except for seeing his photo. Of course, that alone could go a long way with the ladies.

Jason will be partnered with Edyta Sliwinska

Another actress, Shannon Elizabeth, hopes to do what previous youngsters haven't been able to do; walk away with that mirror ball trophy. One thing is certain; she should give Julianne a run for her money with regard to those skimpy little dance costumes. She's definitely got the body to pull them off. If she can also dance, then the women might finally pull a second win.

Shannon will be partnered with Derek Hough

Last, but no means least, is a surprise entry as the beautiful bride of Elvis comes out of her shell to face some competitors nearly half her age. Priscilla Presley has spent years protecting her privacy and staying out of the limelight only to emerge on one of the hottest shows on TV. I find that interesting and exciting. I certainly would not expect her age to be much of a factor. Presley has always succeeded at anything she set her mind to it.

Priscilla will be partnered with Louis Van Amstel

There you have it; the 2008 cast of "Dancing With the Stars." It should be interesting and fun as well as a tad less dramatic than cycle five.

What Dancing With the Stars' celebrities have to say about joining the show's Season 6:

•Actress Shannon Elizabeth, 34: "I've always wondered how I'd do. It looks like fun."

•Actor/entertainer Penn Jillette, 52: "When you look like Sasquatch, it's more comfortable watching the show."
