As the fourth season of So You Think You Could Dance comes to an end, judge Mary Murphy says the competition is as tense as ever. "This is the first season I can't predict the winner. The kids are that good," Mary tells Star at the launch of the new dance/exercise DVD Core Rhythms. One thing the ballroom dance instructor says she is sure of though: "It is the best season ever!"
If you were a contestant how do you think you would stack up against this season's talent?
To be honest, I could not do what they do. I am not kidding. To me it is just insane. These kids are extraordinary talented.
What's up with the contestants' crazy names this season?
This is the first season we have had names like these. All of the names are real. Comfort is her real name and Karrington's name is really spelled that way.
Can you give us an update on Jessica King, who left the show due to an injury?
She is doing really well. They are anticipating she will be able to make the tour. You know, ribs are not an easy thing to recover from. That poor girl must have been in pain for at least 2 weeks before she would tell anyone. She went into the choreography sessions because she desperately wanted to stay on the show. She should have told someone about the injury. But, these kids, it is their dream to be up there.
What separates your show from Dancing with the Stars and America's Best Dance Crew?
Dancing With The Stars is about celebrity and ballroom dancing. They also have a lot longer to prepare for the routine and they are partnered with a trained professional dancer, which makes a huge difference. America's Best Dance Crew is all about the crew. They come in with their own choreography and moves they have been doing for years. On our show, these kids don't know what the choreography is going to be. You have to switch from one dance genre to another quickly. Ours is the toughest dance competition out there, period. |
